ALBUM REVIEWS
• Hospitality
Hospitality
Before this album dropped, we ran a story about the music video for lead single "Friends of Friends" starring Arrested Development star Alia Shawkat. "Friends of Friends" has been getting plenty of spins since it came out, and expectations for this quietly hyped group have been very high. Unlike the train wreck that was Lana Del Rey's debut Born to Die, Hospitality's debut is arguably one of the most fun debut records since the Cults' debut from last June.

With a dynamic and shifting sound that finds influence in everything from folk to '90s alt rock to more timeless guitar rock and pop, Hospitality manages to evoke some of your favorite sounds of the past while filtering it through inherently modern textures. "Friends of Friends" remains as instantly fun as it did upon first listen, and the momentum is maintained throughout nearly the entirety of the album. The slick percussion of "All Day Today" gets mixed with sparkling horn section and a great hook-driven lyricism. The whole album is steeped in an "urban" feel that expertly captures what it's like to be young, creative, and alive in the city. This is an album that's going to speak to a lot of people.
