We've been nibbling on this little number since it made its' way to us a few weeks back. Here's a nice visual that gives this highlight from Papercuts' recently released album You Can Have What You Want a little more context.

The Coward and the Pelican are a band of fresh-faced youngsters from Montreal, Quebec, a city that has for some time now been known as a Mecca for independent music. It is perhaps fitting then that Philippe St-Louis, his brother Etienne, their sister Evelyne, their cousin Carmen Madfouny and their friends Simon Mercier-Nguyen and Emma Glasser, all Montreal natives, have joined together in forming The Coward and the Pelican. On the band's debut Silhouettes EP they bring all the energy of their youth along with a maturity in musical composition that is beyond their years.

What do you get when you mix one Ra Ra Riot lead singer with one multi-instrumentalist from Vampire Weekend? Ra Weekend Ra? Vampire Riot? No...the answer is Discovery.

You may not yet be familiar with the name Ohad Benchetrit. Or maybe it rings a few bells as a member of Do Make Say Think or Broken Social Scene. The truth is that for years now, Benchetrit has been playing all sorts of instruments, helping shape the sound of many of the well known bands in the Canadian indie music scene. It then seems appropriate that since it has taken years for Benchetrit to come into his own, on his debut solo LP he shall dub himself exactly that - Years.

Good things can happen when talented people quit fooling around and get down to what they do best. In Peter Doherty's case, one never knows whether he is back for good or whether he is simply teetering on the line, awaiting the next crash. Nevertheless, when Peter Doherty gets down to doing what he does best, the results are usually pretty amazing.

With his latest album, Jet Black getting rave reviews all over the continent, Reg Vermue, or as most know him, Gentleman Reg, couldn't have chosen a better time to release his latest video for the song "We're in a Thunderstorm".

It's rare that in 2009 a quality pop album creeps under the radar without any hype attached, but that's exactly what happened with the self-titled rookie outing from Brooklyn based four-piece The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Operating somewhere in between the fuzzy hum of shoegaze and the boom-boom-CRASH of amateurish garage (the good kind), The Pains...sound like the composite sketch of every 80's movie soundtrack in the same vein as The Breakfast Club or Pretty in Pink-- veiled and darkly lit with all the beautifully caricatured features of obsessive teenaged idealism (kind of like Molly Ringwald, but with a leather jacket and smoking a cigarette).

Matt and Kim have a tough job ahead of them when making music videos. That is to make videos that are as fun or even more fun then their music. After watching their new video for the song "Lessons Learned", from their latest album Grand, it becomes obvious that they have sure done it this time.

If you have been wondering what has happened to the soft-voiced electro-pop star, who is responsible for creating the immensely popular "Let Go" and "Hide and Seek", along with a host of other beauties, wonder no longer. Imogen Heap, who a few years ago was all over the place, but has since relinquished her place in the spotlight, has been far from idle in her absence from the public eye.

The Felice Brothers do as well as can be asked of any folk band living in the shadow of Dylan and Co., and Yonder is the Clock, for what it lacks in momentum, maintains its worth with a couple of choice sad songs that hang in there with the best of them.

Californian orchestral indie-rockers Foma have just released the debut video from their latest album, Inverness.

Taking a brief moment between gigs on their current tour, Mike Wiebe and Eric Green of Denton TX's Riverboat Gamblers christened our new artist lounge with a dash of Wild Turkey, and a great bit of conversation.

Prefuse 73, one of the many projects of Atlanta, Georgia born Guillermo Scott Herren, has been known to put out music that is both innovative and interesting in that he merges several different genres into one. His latest unclassifiable effort, Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian, is comprised of 29 songs, though don't expect an album of epic proportions. Clocking in at 48.4 minutes, Everything She Touched is really a series of snippets, seamlessly blending into one another, making it impossible to tell where one song ends and another begins.

If someone deposits themselves at the bottom of life's gutter by the glory of their own actions, then the responsibility of climbing on out falls squarely on their shoulders...which certainly explains why North Carolinian musician Stu McLamb is the lone soul piloting The Love Language's eponymous, self-titled release.

What we have here is the winning treatment for M83's "We Own The Sky" video contest. Submitted by the teenage label/design firm Young Replicant, M83's Anthony Gonzalez personally selected his piece for its' fitting atmosphere.

It goes without saying that in a very short time, Passion Pit is going to be all over the place. As one of the buzziest bands of 2008 after only releasing an EP, the present year has the potential to be a big one for these Cambridge, Massachusetts electro-rockers. Even though their debut LP, Manners, will only hit stores on May 19, the first single from the album is already raising some eyebrows.

If Coldplay and Muse had a lovechild born without the self-indulgent swag of high-nosed, arena rock grandeur, I'd imagine it'd sound something like Doves. After having already quietly topped the UK charts with their previous two albums, the latest offering from the Cheshire trio, Kingdom of Rust, can be viewed as an attempt to penetrate the finicky taste of American pop rock.

When you have a voice as pure and sweet as Nevada City's Alela Diane, you don't need a flashy complicated video to get your point across. Diane's latest video for the song "Every Path", from her album To Be Still, is as simple as it gets.

Somewhere in the midst of their ridiculous touring schedule, Austin, Texas' The Trail of Dead has found the time to record a video for one of the most explosive songs off of their latest album, The Century of Self. The video is for "Isis Unveiled" and in it we see a rather scary looking Conrad Keely singing, while chaotic imagery is projected all around him. This video is as exciting as it gets, perhaps trying to keep up with the song, of which to call exciting would be an understatement.

The Century of Self, like Trail of Dead's previous two albums (So Divided and Worlds Apart), is a complex and challenging listen. But Trail of Dead also make an effort to honor those who dig the straight and narrow, employing enough of their punk rock past to allow a more simple style of immersion to present itself. In the end, how you choose to absorb this one comes down to personal preference. Either way though, I guaranteed you'll find a way to lose your self in Trail of Dead's latest album.

It's official, Deerhunter are music making machines. With their latest full length LP, Microcastle still going strong as one of the best albums of 2008 (not to mention its pretty excellent companion bonus disc, Weird Era Cont.) the Atlanta, Georgia four-piece is preparing to unleash their latest work, this time an EP, entitled Rainwater Cassette Exchange.

Somewhere in between Americana and alt-rock, Eulogies stands as a reminder that rock music can still be nothing but guitars, drums, bass and the occasional tambourine. We tend to forget Los Angeles has more to offer than sunshine twee and progressive noise bands. Luckily Eulogies has their "Eyes On The Prize" with Here Anonymous (Dangerbird Records), an unabashed collection of self-reflective dream-rock.

Have you ever wondered what it would look like if lightning could dance? Well now you know thanks to the debut video for the song "Stripes" from Canadian instrumental band Bell Orchestre's latest album, As Seeen Through Windows. In this video, hundreds of pictures of lightning are shown in rapid succession to make it look like the lightning is dancing across your screen.

Glasgow Scotland's Camera Obscura have been making sentimental indie kids swoon for over a decade now. During this time, the band has released three highly acclaimed full length albums...though it's been three years since last their fans heard from them. Good news though, as these indie-pop darlings are finally set to release their latest batch of cutesy love ballads entitled My Maudlin Career on brand new label home, 4AD.

One can only imagine the cartoonish story that unfolds over the course of this video is fairly typical of Broken Social Scenester Brendan Canning.

Reg Vermue has been making music for almost ten years, a fact that will most likely be overlooked by casual music listeners. It feels like a debut, but only because American listeners more than likely have not encountered Reg in any real capacity. He occasionally performs with Broken Social Scene and he's tuned in to the Arts and Crafts Canadian indie scene, but these things don't necessarily mean notoriety in the US. As a direct result, picking up this record having no knowledge of Reg is like finding a great piece of vinyl in an old music store; buried treasure that's existed untapped for far too long.

You can file this one in the "WTF?" category. It's been an interesting week for musicians from different walks of life getting together. Yesterday there was news of Kanye West joining forces with actor/musician Jared Leto and Killers front-man Brandon Flowers to record a song, and today we have this.

Directed by Terrie Timely, this video from St. Vincent's upcoming album Actor (out May 5th on 4AD) provides a perfect visual companion piece to the themes that string through "Actor Out of Work".

Given Angel Deradoorian's booming contributions to the Dirty Projector's line up, Mind Raft provides a rather out of the blue experience. Put simply, this is a differentiated effort; one that will set the listener adrift in a sea of peaceful ruminations if they let it. Call it a life boat if the good ship Longstreth ever goes down.

Franz Nicolay, the mustachioed multi-instrumentalist that you may know from his two well known projects, The Hold Steady and The World/Inferno Friendship society has just released a new video for the song "Jeff Penatly" from his latest solo release, Major General.

Traditionally, Greatest Hits albums have been albums to skip over for real fans because they are usually made up of songs that everybody's heard before. This was until Ben Folds came along with his latest greatest hits compilation, Ben Folds Presents: University A Capella.

We knew you could call us fans the first time we felt the crack of The Whip last summer at McCarren Park in Brooklyn. We were there that day, capturing one of the Manchester outfit's first ever US gigs to date, and immediately fell hard for the band's gooey bits of electro rock. So much so, we knew we had to have at 'em again. So last week we sat down with the entire band (Danny Saville (Keys/Programming), Fiona Daniel (Lil Fee) (Drummer), Nathan Sudders (Bass), Bruce Carter (Guitars)) in New York City, discussing a number of things...

The first thing worth noticing when Inlets take the stage and begin to play is their quiet and contemplative demeanor. This band isn't here to rock you or make you dance. They are here to make you feel. And if you begin to sway along the way, well that's just the result of good music.

Canadian rockers, The Constantines have been busy lately. After releasing what was their 4th studio album in April of last year the band has been almost continuously on the road, playing night-in, night-out for thousands of hungry fans.

Taking a look at Death Cab For Cutie's career to date, it almost seems as if there have been two completely different bands at work, with only Ben Gibbard's voice providing the link between the pair. Early efforts - namely their 2001 release, The Photo Album and subsequent release, Transatlanticism - showed the potential these much beloved sentimentalists were capable of. And in 2005, it all culminated in Plans; the band's career defining album. But after three long Death Cab-less years, the band seemed to stumble a bit with their 2008 effort, Narrow Stairs. While that album might very well be their most commercially successful album to date, musically it failed to build on the greatness of Plans. -Greg Lozoff

Germany's Super700 have been raising eyebrows not only in their European home-continent but across the pond here in North America as well.

We've all gone through a ska phase at some point in our lives. Who could resist those amazing bass-lines, syncopated guitar, and mountains of brass instruments? Bands like The Skatalites, The Specials and The Toasters or more recent bands like Reel Big Fish and Catch 22 have been instrumental in many a young person's coming of age. It is therefore, a big deal when one of the most influential ska bands to ever exist decide to get back together.

After releasing what was their fourth studio album back in 2007, original Akron/Family member Ryan Vanderhoof quit the band for personal reasons, leaving drummer Dana Janssen, guitarist Seth Olinsky and bassist Miles Seaton behind to try and assemble the pieces that remained. Rising to the challenge, the remaining trio are soon set to release (May 5th) Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free (Dead Oceans); an album that, in this case, suggests less just might be more.

I'm guessing Sebastian Grainger's brought his Saddle Creek approved gutter rock to plenty of small places...though this video for "Who Do We Care For" is sort of ridiculous.

Merge Records has been around for quite a long time20 years to be exact. To celebrate the beginning of the record label's third decade of existence, and to commemorate some of the artists that have been a part of Merge Records since the beginning, they have decided to release to the public SCORE: 20 Years of Merge Records: The Covers, a compilation of songs by Merge bands, covered by some very notable non-Merge bands.

The immensely talented Karin Dreijer Andersson, who lends her unique voice to Sweden's The Knife, and who is also featured on two songs on Royksopp's new album Junior, has just released the first video for her solo project, Fever Ray's self-titled debut LP. The video is for the song "When I Grow Up" and in it we see a rather zombie-like Andersson standing on the diving board of a pool in which she has all sorts of magical powers over.

Long Beach, California's Crystal Antlers have been all over the place lately. It really seems as if people can't get enough of them, which makes perfect sense considering they have just released their debut LP, Tentacles on Touch and Go Records. The album definitely lives up to all the expectations people had after hearing their first EP. "Andrew", the first single from the record, has been getting an extensive amount of play around these parts and the band has just released their debut video for the song.

Though there is much to offer in this, Natasha Khan's (Bat For Lashes) now familiar theatric persona (in this case, it's Pearl - her latest artistic, alter ego), at times Two Suns feels a little light, failing to deliver enough cosmetic enhancement over the full course of the album.

The Horrors aren't as scary as their band name may suggest. In fact, the band's new video for the song "Sea Within a Sea", is far from scary. It is, on the other hand, simply a fitting video for a rather excellent song.

If you have been following of Montreal for any length of time you will know that they are a band that is constantly changing and experimenting with new sounds and ideas. The same can be said about the band's live show.

It seems like forever and a day that we have been waiting for Norwegian electro-pop superstar Annie to release her follow up album to 2004's excellent Anniemal.

Cursive has been around a long time. Since 1995 the band has been putting out albums of the finest quality, most notably among these, the stellar, The Ugly Organ in 2003. The band has been through a lot over the years, with break-ups, reunions, side projects and the like. Nevertheless it seems Cursive is as cohesive a unit as ever before. On their latest release, Mama, I'm Swollen we are treated to the same band that we have known and loved for so many years, but one that has quite obviously matured. The band has just filmed their latest video for the first single off the new album, called "From The Hips".

Micachu has been one of the buzziest artists out there these days. Her debut album, Jewelry, which was released last month has already garnered praise from some high places, including The Times and The Guardian. She has even received praise from fellow musician Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy), on the now ever popular Twitter site, when he 'tweeted', "OK, this Micachu record is the best thing on earth. I am going to buy ten copies tomorrow."

The Boy Least Likely To have been writing music together since 2002, but it wasn't until the release of their first LP, The Best Party Ever, that people began to take notice. With a brand of childish twee pop that seemed different than anything else at the time, the band brought with it a sense of innocence...almost as if the cute cartoon animals gracing the cover where the ones playing the instruments. Alas, the members of The Boy Least Likely To are not cartoon animals at all, but rather two full-grown men from Wendover, England who go by the names of Pete Hobbs and Jof Owen.

Bonjour! Today we have an extra special edition of our T.G.I.Mixtape series for your listening pleasure. It has been well documented that Montreal is a city teeming with young and talented musicians just about to burst onto the scene. What we have done for this week's mixtape is rounded up some of the freshest young artists coming out of Montreal, as well as some of the more established talent, and created a mixtape of 10 amazing songs. Staying true to the spirit of Montreal, we have some English songs and some French songs, and take a look at how peacefully the songs co-exist amongst each other. Ha! -Greg Lozoff

There have been a slew of exciting record releases this spring and it's time to add one more to the list. Brooklynite Chris Garneau, whose debut album, Music for Tourists, was sort of a diamond in the rough, has recently released details concerning his sophomore LP.

It's always a good thing when a band that has released albums as interesting and complete as Horn of Plenty and Yellow House manages to match and even exceed their previous work. It doesn't happen often but when it does it is truly a wonderful thing. On Veckatimest, Grizzly Bear have not only lived up to high expectations but they have managed to surpass what anybody could have hoped from them.

You could tell what kind of a show it was going to be 3 hours before the doors even opened. Outside, a few stone cold kids stood shivering on line. Their hope? Get through those restrictive doors by any means necessary. A sold out show meant not all of them would make it. But if by chance a few did, a fantastic night of music featuring Brooklyn's own Beirut awaited them.
